THE LYRICAL SERIES BEGAN IN Nolde Forest. I didn't have this location in mind until a friend recommended I take a look. I knew I wanted a forest with beautiful trees, and tons of sunlight to catch backlit photos just before sunset. When I Googled the location, I knew Nolde was it.
ALIVE was shot on Sunday, and while I was excited before, I couldn't contain a single emotion as I walked on the trails. It was inspirational, something almost liberating.
As an artist and photographer, and the real inspiration behind this all, I became obsessed with how I saw all seven photoshoots playing out, my vision. The song I chose to lyrically inspire the theme for this shoot was 'Alive' by Sia. It's one of my current favorites (they're always changing) and it is a song I replay during my anxiety-filled nights. Even though this shoot was supposed to help suppress my self-doubt, I still doubted my ability to own up to my vision. I was terribly nervous, and almost to the point I swore I'd never leave the house that morning.
But then I owned up to everything and my heart burned with content. There was a moment, as I stood on a stool above Lakin, the model, and almost started crying. One of the shots was just IT. You know? It was everything I saw in my head, everything I dreamed it would be. It was like I could see my soul in the images.
It was like coming home, again and again.
ALIVE was about rising from the ashes and feeling alive, even when your demons are chaining you down. The song, to me, is the epitome of how I manage to find the light, again and again.
Lakin Hutton wore a custom red dress made by Chemistry Fashions and other accessories painted/made by me. The next photoshoot in the series will be ADDICTED (late May 2016). Thank you for loving this project as much as I do.
